This mushroom was found while on a exploratory foray to Clark's Valley late last summer. It was located in an area which included a mix of deciduous trees interspersed with young white pines along Clark's Creek. Clark's Valley is a watershed for the city of Harrisburg PA.

These images were made the next morning after I collected it. Despite being in a cooler, some slight drying had already occurred. When I opened my cooler, I was surprised to discover a powerful and pervasive stench like rotted broccoli and putricine. Sharing the cooler were a number of Russulas, they all had to be discarded. This mushroom was even offensive outside on my screened porch after I photographed it, and completely odorless the next day when fully dried. Samples are available.

If anyone can identify this, please contact Chris Snyder at the address on our contact page.
